love for Forever 21

So I had a brainwave yesterday. I love Forever 21. Or at least, I will do very soon.

I just happened to be at Lakeside yesterday and - despite harbouring rules to avoid spending money and buying clothes right now - I accidentally bought a gorgeous long cardi and two bits of jewellery from there. I hardly ever get to visit a Forever 21 and it just dawned on me how very me it is. I want to have that free-spirited, traveller look 24-7, so it's pretty much my ideal place.

I especially love the Standout Flared Dress, Tulip Maxi Skirt and Refined D'Orsay Flats.

You have no idea how excited I am to lose those pounds, treat myself to a splurge at Forever 21, to then go on holiday this summer. Bring it.

new shoes

Are they my favourite two words ever? New shoes? Possibly.

Thanks to ASOS credit and some Christmas money, I am now the proud owner of these two beauts. I've wanted a pair of Clarks Originals desert boots for what feels like forever, so owning the blue velvet version is heavenly; especially as they were in the sale. They allowed me to also bestow upon myself a drop dead gorgeous pair of floral boots with a similar velvety sheen. Aren't they a treat?

Both of these need some serious wearing in, which I'm feeling joyous about. But it's worth it.

Which shoes are the latest to join your shoedrobe?

a new year of happiness

However much of a cliché it sounds, I'm feeling rather optimistic about 2014. Something feels a bit different, and I can't wait to get stuck in. I have, quite possibly, the same resolutions as everyone else: get fit and lose weight (precisely 3 stone); stop biting my nails (though this will never happen); save more money, but also treat myself more with shopping trips; take more care of my skin and overall health; etc etc etc.

I then have more specific ideas. I want to go on a plane with Daniel. I'd love to get Nola a buddy. I want to be a better cook. I want to walk to work every day. But, most of all, I want to experience an abundance of happiness this year. Just one of the above pictures is from 2013 and the rest are from the years before it, but next year's collage will be chock-full of 2014 memories. Happy ones.

a Sammydress smock dress

smock dress: c/o Sammy Dress
elephant necklace: c/o Sammy Dress
black leggings: Topshop
tasselled ankle boots: Primark

Oh I do love a smock dress. Unfortunately many of them drown me and I end up looking like some sort of whale, but that's why I adore this green floral print smock dress - it's wonderfully short (hence the leggings) so the voluminous effect works fine. I paired it with this cute elephant necklace resulting in a perfectly green look. Smashing.

Now I must dash - it's Daniel's birthday tomorrow and we've been eating copious amounts of food this weekend in celebration. Nandos is calling!

a cheap alternative to Double Wear

Friday, 3 January 2014

When I discovered Estée Lauder Double Wear, I thought all was right in the world. The Gods had spoken, an angel came to me, yadda yadda yadda. Not only did it cover every unsightly blemish, but it managed to stay on for hours - naughtily not taking my make-up off at night and waking up with a perfect complexion proved this. But the £28.50 price tag just doesn't sit well with me or my bank account.

A recent perusal of Boots saw me come away with a few vastly cheaper foundations, the best of which was the Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation. It has just as much staying power, it's only £4.99 (with regular offers on too) and - the best thing - you don't feel like you're wearing a thick mask of paint, as with Double Wear. The finish is soft, radiant and, quite frankly, it smells lovely too.

I've saved £23.51 and my face feels better for it. Have you tried Rimmel Lasting Finish Foundation?
