wake up: an honest ramble

 photo cOLLAGE_zpsef3a56a4.png

I can say with some certainty that I'm not the only one who suffers from Tumblr envy, Pinterest envy, book envy, anything-that's-not-your-life envy. Where everyone else and everything looks so much better than what you have.

Lately I've had the urge to just pack everything in and escape - whether that's literally packing for a lone excursion with belongings stuffed into a backpack, or just some other life upheaval.

It's probably just a funk. I have so many things to be extra happy about. But when you start to feel this way for weeks on end, it really starts to get you down. All you want is the happy life with the amazing, well-paid job; the boyfriend who just can't get enough of you; a beautiful home that makes you smile every time you look at it; friends who you see all the time; and a social life to rival the most exquisite in the world.

But I don't do a lot. Why is that? Partly, I think it's down to the fact that I'm too scared - too scared to go out there and try something new. What if people don't like me? What if no one speaks to me? On top of that, I'm not surrounded by people with get-up-and-go, and that's what I need. I've spent quite a long time now looking after other people - perhaps someone should look after me now, tell me what I need to do to be the happiest I could possibly be, and show me the way.

I think I'm craving positivity and, if I'm honest, the ability to step inside my Tumblr and embrace a new life. Let me know if they invent that. I know I hardly suffer on a day-to-day basis - I'm well aware that the world is full of utter sorrow, but I'm sure you'll agree that someone reminding you of that does little to make you feel better when you're stuck in your own head.

For now, I think it's time I listed what's good in my life. Surely that could help?

1. My job's pretty cool. I'm Deputy Editor of the UK's best-selling crafts magazine, and I love it.
2. I've made a really good friend there recently. She's the best. Currently we spend every lunchtime together in the gorgeous, bright sunshine.
3. Nola and Harry - my cats - bring me so much joy.
4. Though I don't have much money at the end of the month, I managed to move out from my family home with my boyfriend over a year ago - we haven't ever missed rent, nor have we set the place on fire, so that's a success.
5. There are two girls in my life who I see very little of but when we do meet up, I just cannot stop smiling.

Hopefully this list will grow and grow as the months go on. A few things that certainly aren't helping my general sense of happiness include my lack of willingness to excercise and keep fit, the very little amount of blogging I've been doing lately, and my inability to try something new. These are certainly things I'm going to change.

If you've got this far, then well done - I'm definitely one to ramble. And if no one reads this ever, I needed to type it out - let it out, at least.

i'm latching onto you

I had a week off work and it was glorious. I went to The Making of Harry Potter studio tour on my birthday, Alton Towers, there was a night out with friends, a lunch out with family, fruit picking, shopping, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, a trip to some local lakes, pubs etc etc etc. Wonderful.

There was also a trip to Walton-on-the-Naze, the snaps from which are above. It was beautifully hot and I want to go back at some point this summer.

DIY Lavender Bath Salts

 photo DIYLavenderBathSalts_zps439e31e0.png

I'm really getting into this YouTube malarkey. I uploaded this DIY Lavender Bath Salts tutorial a week or so ago, which you can view above. It's a super simple recipe for lavender-infused bath salts, which I keep making and using again and again. I hope to make more like this, as well as the usual talky, haul-y types.

Check out my latest collective haul too, which includes ASOS, New Look, Topshop, H&M and Boots.

If you're a cat fan, you're in luck too. Nola and Harry feature prominently so far, and it seems people like it that way! May my cats become famous one day.

Be sure to check out my channel here.

details of the day #25

 photo PicMonkeyCollage_zpsac98d13f.jpg

I wake up in a panic, having not decided what to wear for work the night before - I don't normally, but photoshoot + launch party = dilemma / I decide on the above, get ready and greet the kitties / I walk the two miles to work, grab a box of goodies for photography, hop in a taxi and spend the morning at a studio, assisting in the imagery for the next issue / I enjoy my daily work lunch with Katy and, after popping on a pair of nude nights, we leave the office at 4 to go to St Pancras for a sewing machine launch party, which was great fun / we have a much-needed McDonald's on the train home and a good ol' natter, and I end up getting in at about 11:30 / After some necessities (showering, changing the cats' litter tray (yay) and sorting my life out) I get into bed to await Daniel's return / he works late a lot, so we end up nattering until 2:00am and, undoubtedly, I'm shattered the next day.

I am IN. LOVE. with these sandals. They're exactly what I've been after - comfortable black sandals, with a heel, chunky, double strap, ridged sole, affordable, boom. These bad boys cost £16 from Primark so I'm one happy camper.

They look especially good with my disco pants, which I sort of forgot I owned. Well, no more forgetfulness.

Are you on the chunky-heeled-sandals fashion train?

VLOG: Primark Haul | June 2014

 photo test_zps16a229ff.png

So I've ventured into the world of YouTube with a Primark haul. I picked up some really lovely pieces on Sunday at the Chelmsford branch, and couldn't resist sharing them with you all. Plus, there are cats.

I'd really appreciate it if you would like and subscribe. Enjoy!

'Scuse the fringe - I'm growing it out. Or at least that was my spontaneous decision a week or so ago, but when the process moves along a little I might regret it. [Big forehead].

This is my go-to summer outfit right now. Smock dress + denim jacket + sandals = done. Oh, along with my cheap as chips sunglasses - I'm very tempted to buy numerous pairs of these so as to quench my round sunglasses thirst for years to come.

Do you have a standard summer outfit?

dream wardrobe

 photo FreePeopleMoodboard_zps5c6b2bdb.jpg

Though it may look far from what I actually wear, anything by Free People is dreamy in my books - and if I won the lottery, it would be difficult to resist buying every damn thing they create.

Above is just a teeny tiny selection of my favourite pieces currently available, from a gorgeous split maxi skirt to slouchy ankle boots, a drop dead gorgeous tunic and a cascading ear cuff.

Oh god, I think I just cried a little. Why is none of it mine?

Meet Harry! Isn't he the cutest?

We've wanted to get a buddy for Nola for a while, and we decided now was the perfect time. I fell in love with him straight away - he's so playful, too confident for his own good and an utter meow-er. He's very pleased to meet you.

Check out the 'Meet Nola' post from last autumn - she was only a few weeks older than Harry is now when we got her, so it's amazing to see the size difference.

I'm a content crazy cat lady now.

Firmoo glasses review

If you're a glasses-wearer like me, you'll find Firmoo to be everything you're looking for. I've always gone to Boots Opticians out of habit, but their selection is pretty dire. So much so, in fact, that on my last visit when my prescription changed, I chose the exact same pair I already had - and that sort of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it? That's why I was thrilled when Firmoo got in touch.

They have a fantastic selection of frames to choose from. With my prescription in tow, I opted for patterened white glasses so that I had a completely different (and slightly quirky) pair in comparison to my regular black frames.

Aren't they fab? And the best thing is, the prices are flabbergastingly fantastic. The pair I'm wearing are just £23! Oh, and they came with a fabric drawstring case, a map print hard case and a little tool for tightening the screws - thorough or what? Buh-bye Boots.

Does anything quite beat a spontaneous trip to London? Daniel and I hopped in the car and ventured to Central London yesterday, and it was delightful.

We lost our Five Guys virginity - it had been an ambition of ours since we saw this - and it was everything we hoped for and more. Full to the brim, we walked from Covent Garden to Trafalgar Square and simply basked in the glorious sunshine, while enjoying entertainment from a guy called Matt Valentine just outside of The National Gallery.

After ice-cream back in Covent Garden, we made our way home - making sure to catch a glimpse of the Thames.

How was your sunny Sunday?

pancakes two ways

Oh how excited I get come Shrove Tuesday. Pancakes may just be one of my favourite foods, so I was always going to take full advantage of that today.

First up, Daniel and I made some American-style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Delicious. That was our main course, if you will. Afterwards we indulged in more traditional pancakes with sugar and lemon, which acted as our dessert.

In actual fact, it was pancakes four ways - we also made chocolate chip American pancakes and Nutella crepes. But no one needs to know that.

The sun has made an appearance a number of times recently. At work, I've even found myself heading out with the girls at lunchtime coat-less - I know, right? And these odd days of gloriousness have got me thinking about all of the clothes, accessories and beauty products I want this spring/summer.

Above is just a minuscule collection of some pieces I'm currently coveting. I especially want the sandals and that daisy print dress to be mine.

What are you wishing for, wardrobe-wise, right now?

Lush haul

Sunday, 16 February 2014

 photo Lush1_zpsa12c6885.jpg photo Lush2_zps01b40cf5.jpg photo Lush3_zps940accbd.jpg

Finally living in a place where Lush is on your doorstop is both fantastic and dangerous all at once.

I had a wonderful afternoon yesterday with my lovely bestie Charlee, and we felt that a Lush splurge was in order. Plenty of time was spent deliberating, but I finally opted for the above. I normally only get bath goodies, but decided on some raved-about hair products too in the Big Sea Salt Shampoo and No Drought Dry Shampoo. I'm forever on a quest to discover big hair products, so these two should do the job perfectly.

Bath bombs, of course, made their way into my basket too. I opted for a firm favourite of mine - Blackberry - along with two new ones in Rose Queen and Lord of Misrule, which is a discontinued Christmas creation.

Are there any Lush products you particularly recommend?

stress busters

Monday, 10 February 2014

 photo StressBusters_zps2ad59839.png
I have so much to do and so much on my mind, that I've gone a tad crazy.

Most of this evening has been manic, like many others from the past couple of weeks, but I made sure to have a long soak and enjoy some of my favourite stress busters: say hello to a, erm, big red candle, Radox Stress Relief bubble bath, the Lush comforter, a soppy novel, and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Bliss.

This little one is a constant source of happiness, too, so if it all gets a bit much, I have a much-needed kitty cuddle...

I love finding clothes and accessories you forgot you had. These boots practically stumbled out of my shoe storage yesterday, begging to be worn, and the denim shorts haven't seen the light of day in months, and I can't quite work out why.

It's inspired me to make the most of my wardrobe, instead of moaning about not owning enough clothes. Though a carefree shopping trip wouldn't go amiss, of course.

I'm experiencing a very productive weekend - how's yours going?

love for Forever 21

Sunday, 26 January 2014

 photo Forever21Fashion_zpsb520f0bb.png
So I had a brainwave yesterday. I love Forever 21. Or at least, I will do very soon.

I just happened to be at Lakeside yesterday and - despite harbouring rules to avoid spending money and buying clothes right now - I accidentally bought a gorgeous long cardi and two bits of jewellery from there. I hardly ever get to visit a Forever 21 and it just dawned on me how very me it is. I want to have that free-spirited, traveller look 24-7, so it's pretty much my ideal place.

I especially love the Standout Flared Dress, Tulip Maxi Skirt and Refined D'Orsay Flats.

new shoes

Are they my favourite two words ever? New shoes? Possibly.

Thanks to ASOS credit and some Christmas money, I am now the proud owner of these two beauts. I've wanted a pair of Clarks Originals desert boots for what feels like forever, so owning the blue velvet version is heavenly; especially as they were in the sale. They allowed me to also bestow upon myself a drop dead gorgeous pair of floral boots with a similar velvety sheen. Aren't they a treat?

Both of these need some serious wearing in, which I'm feeling joyous about. But it's worth it.

a new year of happiness

Wednesday, 8 January 2014

 photo HappyMoments_zps0cefb551.jpg

However much of a cliché it sounds, I'm feeling rather optimistic about 2014. Something feels a bit different, and I can't wait to get stuck in. I have, quite possibly, the same resolutions as everyone else: get fit and lose weight (precisely 3 stone); stop biting my nails (though this will never happen); save more money, but also treat myself more with shopping trips; take more care of my skin and overall health; etc etc etc.

I then have more specific ideas. I want to go on a plane with Daniel. I'd love to get Nola a buddy. I want to be a better cook. I want to walk to work every day. But, most of all, I want to experience an abundance of happiness this year. Just one of the above pictures is from 2013 and the rest are from the years before it, but next year's collage will be chock-full of 2014 memories. Happy ones.
