Christmas aftermath

Because I'm a nosey so-and-so, I love seeing what people got for Christmas. I was really lucky this year and got some fantastic presents, most of which are shown above - favourites include my cake maker from Daniel, the Christmas Lush set, earl grey tea from Sri Lanka from my sister, the pretty vase from Past Times and the jingly jangly candle holder.

Daniel and I also bought each other a keyboard (you can see it in action in our flat tour), my parents took us all to see a Sleeping Beauty pantomime, and my grandparents were as generous as ever.

We had a fantastic few days and are now just relaxing to the maximum before I go back to work on Thursday. I may even make cake pops this afternoon.

How was your Christmas?

flat tour (with Christmas cheer & little Nola)

I've wanted to do a flat tour for yonks. Daniel and I have been living here for eight months now, so time's really been getting on. We're practically elderly.

Christmas is Daniel's favourite time of year, so I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to show off the place and let you meet Nola in true form. Along with our wall map, blackboard letters, numerous candles, flowers, a delightful Kate Bush print, real Christmas tree, brand new keyboard (it's our Christmas present for each other) and fairy lights, I can safely say we've made it our home.

I hope you like it!

I'm woken up by the barking dog downstairs for what feels like the millionth time, and it's way before my alarm is set - d'oh / I complete my morning routine, which includes feeding the lovely Nola / work is pretty usual today, though the storm drama takes over - the door flew open in a violent gust and we're told to put our computer bases on our desks in case the office floods / on the way home, Holly (my going-to-work buddy) and I stop off at The Range for Christmas goodies - I pick up a tree stand, tacky foil lanterns for the ceiling, some personalised photo baubles and gold glitter / I stuff myself silly with a hearty bowl of comfort food: bacon and cheese pasta / my evening is spent full of chores, which definitely makes time fly.

Now I'm lying in bed Daniel-less (he's in Manchester) but with Harry Potter for company. It could be worse.

Something hasn't been quite right lately and the only thing I can pinpoint is that I've completely lost my confidence over the past few months. And that's not something I thought I'd say.

I wasn't afraid to walk into town, I didn't think everyone was looking at me, and I didn't worry that people didn't like me, up until now. I'm not really sure how to get out of this funk, but I think adopting a healthy lifestyle and treating myself every now and then is the way forward.

Lush was the answer last week. I bought the Oatifix face mask - my skin has been atrocious lately - and The Comforter bubble bar because, well, just because. And, thanks to the ever lovely staff, I was treated to a few samples, which nearly made me cry. Oh, life.

I definitely need to sort myself out and I think another Lush bath is on the cards right about now...

Sorry for the slight unload there. I don't normally do it at all. Do you ever get in a funk either life-wise or style-wise or happiness-wise? How do you get out of it?

the New Forest

The weekend before last was spent in the New Forest - Sandy Balls to be precise. And yes, that's a real place. It was my third visit and we always go at this time of year. My favourite and least favourite part of the trip was the traditional bike ride, which saw us tackle a hilly fifteen miles. Take a look at the sights, which includes wild horses trundling past, donkeys, swans, and gorgeous views...

what I want

 photo Wishlist_zps118e3b6d.jpg

All I've thought about lately are the practical things in life. We bought blinds at the weekend, I've had to book an Optician's appointment, my car's a constant worry, we need more washing-up liquid, and I count down the days until pay day. I long for the day when I can be totally frivolous and buy all of the above.

What's on your wishlist?

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween folks!

In spooky news, I carved my first ever pumpkin last night (mine's on the right) and I was pretty darn pleased with myself. We lit them in time for midnight and placed them on the balcony to scare passers by. Or that was the plan anyway.

In more spooky news, Nola is a wimp. She's scared of Tesco's Munchkin Pumpkin.

Who's got ghoulish plans this evening?

Running Up That Hill print - Annarack

I started following Anna on Instagram a while back and have continuously been impressed with her illustrative abilities. Her jewellery is fantastically unique - I actually featured Anna and her designs in Make & Sell Jewellery - and her prints are perfect for the home. I couldn't resist purchasing this one because the Kate Bush song is one of my absolute favourites. Along with wonderful lyrics, it's certainly an uplifting piece of artwork, no? I plan on framing it and placing it in my bedroom.

Be sure to check out Anna's designs on Etsy, paying particular attention to those unbelievably fab ankh cross necklaces like this one. Are you a fan?

meet Nola

It's safe to say that I've never felt love like this before. Sorry Daniel.

For over a week now, we've been mummy and daddy to the most beautiful kitten in the world - meet Nola. She's positively wonderful and makes me smile a ridiculous amount. Whether we're sharing snuggles or simultaneously chasing an empty loo roll, she's the most fun bundle of fluff in existence.

If you're equally cat-obsessed, visit me on Instagram for more snaps, as well as a selection of videos. Isn't she the cutest?

Haus of Deck

Ever since I stumbled across Haus of Deck, I've been smitten with their jewellery. So when the lovely Steffi sent me a selection of items, I couldn't have been more thrilled with the goodies she chose. I don't normally opt for bright colours, but I can see the eye-popping bracelet getting plenty of wear next summer. I'm actually really excited about the choker too - it's not a style I'd normally consider for myself but being obsessed with this season's penchant for a nineties throwback, I think it's about time I got involved.

The adorable cross charm ring will certainly become a staple, but my absolute favourite out of the four are the Wing Collar Studs. How cool will they look on a vintage white shirt this winter?

I'm completely obsessed with the brand's Art Deco-inspired earrings too so I might just have to treat myself soon. Have you taken a look at Haus of Deck before?

ASOSing around

Thanks to the ever so lovely Rosie from A Rosie Outlook and her amazing giveaway, I was lucky enough to have £100 to spend at ASOS. I treated myself to a festival-appropriate black crochet number and a pair of lacy socks - more on those later - and the fab ASOS Boyfriend T-Shirt in Lace. Daniel got the awesome ASOS Wool Blend Jumper. We even have a little money left on my account, which is marvy.

I finally managed to get Daniel involved with an outfit post. It's about time really because he's never had an issue with posing, as you can tell. This is what happens when your boyfriend drinks too much cider and steals your glasses.

And here's a treat for ya - if you look at the last picture, Daniel and I have swapped legs. Happy Saturday!

So that's my face. Multiple times. In actual magazines.

I thought it was about time I proudly shared my work life with you all. I write for Make & Sell Jewellery and Sew magazines, which I truly truly love. My job entails so much it's crazy, but that's how I like it. Favourite moments so far have included chatting away to the Queen's glove maker, attending numerous photo shoots, going to jewellery events in London and, of course, seeing my name and face in print.

beauty buys

Sunday, 22 September 2013

 photo IMG_1161_zps47a5e940.jpg

As an ex-Boots employee, there is a small part of me that weeps uncontrollably when making a purchase without a hefty discount. Hence why I only bought complete bargains yesterday. The best thing about working in a shop like Boots is getting freebies - I've had a sizeable stash of perfumes for years. Unfortunately it doesn't exist any more, so I purchased Calvin Klein Eternity Moment. It smells lovely but the main reason I got it was because it's the Eau de Parfum, it was reduced from £66 to £33, AND you currently get 500 points when you spend £20 on Calvin Klein. Boosh.

On top of that, I got two Soap & Glory body washes (buy one get one half price - get on it) along with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and a Seventeen Miracle Matte Pressed Powder, because they were blessed with the same offer.

Have you splurged on any beauty products lately?

details of the day #23

 photo 23_zpsab3ce946.jpg

I wake up when I don't want to be woken up / I get dressed in my favourite comfy outfit, as of late, and bask in the beauty that is putting on a new pair of leggings / I eat a peanut butter and chocolate pop tart (!) and make a Nutella sandwich for work - I have a problem / work's busy busy busy but at least I'm being kept, well, busy / I natter with the lovely Amy on my lunch break / the afternoon passes by in a flash and, before I know it, I'm passing on the gym and am making courgette pasta at home / I continue with season one of House (it's a little addictive, no?), steal one of Daniel's Reese's Cups, and smile big time when he gets home as if nothing happened - he left it for me anyway. Nice.

Now I'm going to shower - clean thoughts people, clean thoughts - and snuggle up with some Scrubs before bedtime. Oh the rock 'n' roll lifestyle I lead.

River Island polka dot crop top
Charity shop green pleat skirt
Glamorous studded black boots

I picked up this skirt in a charity shop yesterday and have been swishing around in it all day. What a beaut. And I finally have something I can comfortably wear this crop top with: marvy.

hair journey

Saturday, 14 September 2013

 photo HairJourney_zps6131c21f.jpg

So I've felt like mixing things up for a while now, hair-wise. I used to dye my hair rather regularly (think various shades of brown, red, dark purple, orange, ginger...) but fell in love with my blonde transformation in 2011. Two years is long enough though, don't you think?

Here's my hair journey. I dyed it a rather dark blonde (which verges on brown) and then, typically, my hair adapted over a week or so to looking quite light again. A few clicks on Amazon and I'd armed myself with Stargazer Semi-Permanent Conditioning Hair Colour Rinse in Baby Pink, hence my dip-dyed ends. It actually looks a little brighter in real life!

So I have pink hair. And I love it. Is anyone else out there getting itchy feet with regards to their hair?

When Daniel and I went for a spot of fruit picking last month, we came across a basket saying 'Free Jam Jars - Please Take'. Who was I to say no? On our return home, I simply popped in a couple of tealights and voilĂ  - pretty, rustic, natural lighting.

On top of that, I'm repeatedly inspired by Pinterest at work but seem to do nothing about it. I decided to change that with these homemade tin lights. Instead of chucking out your baked bean tins, simply peel off their labels, fill with water and freeze overnight. The next day, grab yourself a screwdriver and bash it with another to create holes. I opted for basic heart and star motifs.

Are you a fan of different types of mood lighting? I especially am at the moment. My advice? Light some candles and listen to this...
