you don't have to say what's on your mind

dip-dye tee: H&M
velvet skirt: River Island (similar to this one)
gold 'love' bracelet: Topshop
flower crown: DIY
black Chelsea boots: vintage

I finally have a flower crown to call my own! While I'm pretty sure I'm going to ask my nan and granddad for this one from Rock 'n' Rose for Christmas, I just couldn't wait any longer to get my hands on one. I was actually inspired by my colleague Helen's do-it-yourself flower crown tutorial (her YouTube channel is insanely good - check out the DIY here) so made a trip to Hobbycraft yesterday with the boyfriend. He actually ended up making it for me too - what a catch.

And while I'm still on the hunt for the perfect pleated leather skirt, this velvet one from River Island called out to me in the meantime. I don't know why it's not on the website but I've linked the skirt that was next to it in-store.

Don't forget to check out Helen's YouTube channel if you fancy making yourself a flower crown - it's easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Wednesday, 24 October 2012

awake to Mumford & Sons / get my arse into gear and start writing, blogging, photo-editing and the like for Ministry of Fashion and Mr Shoes / proactively renew my gym membership and have a lunchtime workout / enjoy a salad for lunch from the Co-op / continue with work in a chipper chipper mood / have Chinese soup, duck rolls and popcorn prawn for dinner / get ready for a night on the taaaaaan with my gorgeous bestie (we're celebrating her 21st for the second time), boyfriend and friends - I cannot wait

song of the day: Otis Redding - Try A Little Tenderness (might just be my favourite song of all time)

sparkle in your eye

Thursday, 18 October 2012

This baby is mine. All mine.

I don't think I'll be wearing this Topshop sale beauty 'til December - it's even more Christmassy IRL - but I just couldn't resist snapping it up when there was just the one left. It's everything I love in a dress. Beautiful wintry colour? Check. Flattering skater fit? Check. Sequins and sparkle? Check and check.

Some of you are probably thinking 'Wowza, OTT!' and indeed it is. Yum.

cream crop knit: charity shop
high-waisted tie-dye denim shorts: Topshop
khaki & faux leather jacket: River Island
cluster necklace: New Look
spike bracelet: Dorothy Perkins
peace ring: Boots
moccasins: H&M

This week I'm most definitely living for the weekend. It's my best friend Charlee's birthday next week and we're going out on Saturday night to celebrate; the first time I've gone out out in about two months. Exciting.

Did I mention that she and I are also going to see Nicki Minaj at the end of the month? It's going to be frickin' amazing. Not because we're super fans - we should really listen to more of her album... - but because we always have a blast together.

Are you doing anything exciting in October?

film recommendation #7

Friday, 12 October 2012

As soon as I heard about Take This Waltz I wanted to watch it. I saw the advert and thought: 'Michelle Williams in a beautiful looking indie film - done.'

imdb.com explained it as follows: 'A happily married woman falls for the artist who lives across the street.' Firstly, she wasn't overly happy and secondly... she's uncontrollable when it comes to the man across the street. Margot (played by Williams) seems troubled and in a constant state of conflict. Her home life seems pretty content but she's desperate for more, which she finds in Daniel (played by Luke Kirby).

No one's ever truly satisfied and things can get boring pretty quickly though can't they? This film made me feel 100% better knowing I'm not alone in my constant state of utter confusion about the entire damn world. Whew. Deep.

will you still love me tomorrow?

black mesh dress: charity shop
denim jacket: H&M
chunky bracelet: Dorothy Perkins
white and black frilly socks: Topshop
black sandals: Mr Shoes

I wrote a piece for work today on the vampy look i.e. blood red lips against a luminous and pale face. Perfectly showcased on the runway at Gucci's autumn/winter 2012 collection, it's such an easy look to replicate. I have a feeling I'll be using my favourite Sephora lipstick and very little else on my face in the upcoming months.

On the outfit itself, I am pretty smitten with my charity shop find. Originally Forever 21, this dress is definitely going to be getting a lot of wear. I only paid £2 I think; what a bargain.

crushing on: vintage Drew Barrymore

Friday, 5 October 2012

With my job, I have the odd day where I completely lack inspiration and want to hit my head against the desk. That's when a healthy dose of magazines, fashion books and Tumblr come in handy, and these snaps of Drew Barrymore from back in the day just sing to me. Pink hair, doses of denim, all-American tees and dungarees, flower wreaths and clumpy sandals... what could be better? And I can't think of anyone who rocks the colour white better either.

It's all in the little details too. See that chipped nail varnish? She's far from perfect, but oh-so-perfect.

details of the day #16

Wednesday, 3 October 2012

wake up from an amazing night's sleep / get to work aka move over to my desk and start researching, writing, blogging, tweeting, Photoshop editing etc etc / meet up with my bestie Charlee for lunch and a natter - she always makes me feel good about life / carry on working away: Elizabeth Hurley vs. Lady Gaga in that Versace number, Chanel spring/summer 2013 etc / munch on some seafood sticks as a pre-dinner snack / have vegetable soup and chicken wraps for dinner with the fam (yum yum)

song of the day: Maverick Sabre "I Can Never Be" - AllSaints Basement Sessions

Aaaaand here we are. I know it's not the most fun-filled of days but I haven't done one of these in a while. And seeing my best friend always puts me in a good mood so I'm rather chipper today! I'm now just going to relax and have an evening in with my boyfriend, Daniel. Bliss.

#fmsphotoaday

Monday, 1 October 2012

I've done one of these things once before and actually loved it. I don't use Instagram nearly as much as I should and this will push me to be creative as well as offer my followers insight into my daily routine; if they're interested that is.

Is anyone else getting involved with #fmsphotoaday for October?
