oversized black tee: Topshop
statement jewel necklace: Primark

Definitely look like I'm being possessed by a plant in that first shot. Fact.

I'm in love with my new trousers from Topshop. They were a total last minute try-on but I'm so glad I gave them a go. What's slightly annoying is that they were so snug in the changing room and now I find myself pulling them up all the time. Aside from purchasing some braces, I really don't think there's anything I can do about it. Gah!

In other news, it's getting a bit nippy isn't it? I promptly came in after these were taken and shoved on my Primark Christmas jumper - bliss.

flower power geek glasses: c/o Cherry Baby

I'm in love with these. As you can tell. They're the perfect festival accessory, no? Or, quite frankly, all-year-round accessory. If only I could pop my prescription lenses out of my proper serious geek glasses and do a little swap!

Cherry Baby is a UK-based online accessories boutique that's all about the funky, retro and vintage. Offering goodies from adorable hair clips to funky earrings to charm rings and much more, most of their items are made by hand using recycled or vintage materials. Even custom-made goods are available too.

If you fancy treating yourself or a loved one this Christmas with something affordable yet oh-so-cool, why not take a look-see? Emma Turner - the lovely lady behind Cherry Baby - is offering free P&P as well as a free pair of earrings with all online orders over £10 at the moment. Amazing!

black velvet tee: charity shop
disco pants: HQ (Glamorous)
denim jacket: H&M
turquoise necklace: Forever 21 sale
gold stone ring: Boots
peace ring: Boots
Chelsea boots: vintage

This outfit is comfort to the absolute max. I caved and got some disco pants. Although I won't be wearing tops shorter than the one above with them (trust me, ain't nobody got time for that) they look far better than a regular pair of wet-look leggings; especially on your derrière, even if I do say so myself. I'm in love with one of my latest charity shop purchases too - this tee is the perfect slouchy fit.

Aside from your favourite onesie, what's your most comfiest thing to wear?

Oh, and I know I'm totally late on this but I can't stop listening to The Lumineers. Especially this one, hence the post title.

white tee: Republic
black short-sleeved blouse: Primark
fairisle print leggings: New Look
statement necklace: Forever 21 sale
Chelsea boots: vintage

There's a major problem with having fair hair: it sort of blends into the very white sky we seem to be stuck with lately, creating god awful photographs. Ah well, I never claimed to be a photographer.

I am bunged up, my face hurts and I have had an unusual breakout of spots but I like to think I've hidden it all quite well (thanks Estee Lauder!) and actually managed to wear something over than my pyjama bottoms today too.

I've had these leggings for yonks but I still love them - so comfortable. My lipstick is Topshop Hedonist - which I bought last week as a little treat - and I absolutely adore it too. Definitely my go-to shade now. What's your signature lipstick?

a week of new beginnings

Friday, 16 November 2012

Despite being ridden with cold (you don't need to cry for me - my eyes have done enough watering for a lifetime) I have had a really good week. And it's not even over yet. On Wednesday night I went to the Company Fashion Forum with Robyn and Jem (can't believe we didn't get a picture ladies!) at Hackney Picturehouse. It was an event which aimed to offer insight into how to get your fashion career kickstarted. Company editor-in-chief Victoria White and a host of industry professionals were on the panel offering advice aplenty.

Despite being lucky enough to currently be writing for a living, it certainly gave me a boost and I have hundreds of ideas swarming around my head. Robyn, Jem and I even got the chance to speak to Victoria afterwards which was very surreal.

What did I do this week? Oh, I just spoke to the editor of my favourite magazine and she said my friends and I were on the right path. Yeah, not much.

With a new lease of life in my step, I decided my drab drab hair needed revitalising too. Yep. The long blonde locks got chopped on Thursday evening. I had a good 3-4 inches off and my fringe is wider and thicker too. I actually think it looks even better today with the whole bed head thing going on but, alas, my face looks a little like this hence the lack of picture. Thank you to Dan for making me hairy happy.

Oh I do love positive energy. Are you having a glass-half-full kind of week too?

I've been dabbling in a bit of work at the Mr Shoes store in Chelmsford recently to prep for The Clothes Show and - for purely work-related purposes of course - the girls and I tried on some Bedroom Athletics slippers last week for the blog. See the post here. Putting our other shoes back on afterwards was utterly horrendous because these slippers are most definitely the comfiest things I've ever worn ever. Like ever. [<< that was for you Tay Tay.]

You won't regret buying a pair - I'm going to do it ASAP. Here's the Mr Shoes selection if you want to have the best and most snuggly, cosy and toasty warm winter EVER. Like ever.

crinkly white dress (worn as skirt): charity shop
black cropped jumper: H&M
gold skull necklace: New Look (silver one here)
bronze textured ring: jewellery shop in Siem Reap, Cambodia

I fell in love with this dress in my favourite charity shop about a month ago now and this is its first outing. Its top half looks a little unfortunate on so it's going to have to be worn as a skirt but I love its crinkly effect and I'm sure it'll get lots of wear in both summer and winter. And although you can't tell here it is rather see-through so my couldn't-live-without-them cycling shorts saved the day once more.

On another note, are you as in love with my new shoes as I am? I spied them in the H&M catalogue that popped through my door last week and loved them instantly. I can't wait to pair them with frilly white socks and tights next.

Anyway, happy Friday! Have you got any super cool party people plans for this weekend?

geek sweat: Topshop
skinny triangle bangle: Urban Outfitters

Still desperate for a pair of dungarees. Still haven't got a pair of disco pants. Have yet to embellish any of my garments with studs. Have always wanted to own something bright orange in the clothing department. Still don't own a pair of DMs. And I'm a geek.

I need to start earning more money.

the big bang theory

Having not done anything for Guy Fawkes Night last year (I was merely swanning about in Vietnam...) I was determined to see some good fireworks this year. Daniel and I headed to Danbury Fireworks on Saturday night. It's just down the road and cost £6 which we both agreed was an absolute bargain. We arrived at the site and had a quick pint of cider before watching the huge bonfire being lit. It was seriously impressive and the sky was beautifully filled with glowing embers. We then waited for the fireworks, which were glorious...

I'd say they were the best I've seen in the UK by far. There were even fireworks neither of us had seen before: amazing Chinese lantern style fireworks and a massive explosion that most definitely wowed.

Have you done anything to celebrate this year? Or are you saving it for tonight?

winter warmers

Friday, 2 November 2012

It's that time of year when all you can think about is getting into bed with your favourite onesie and a pair of cosy socks, supping on a mug of hot chocolate. It can't just be me surely? And while I'm sure we'd all love to go to school or work in that kind of delightful get-up, it's not really the done thing. Instead, winter allows us to shop for all sorts of lovely knits, coats and cute accessories, and Boohoo is certainly the place to do it. Here are some of my favourite winter warmers...

What I love about the faux-fur coat is its luxe, grown-up feel. From the recently-launched Boutique range, it really is something special. Staple items to impress me include their range of wintry leggings and the below boyfriend cardigan too. On the accessories front, I adore the mix of studs and faux-fur on the beret and who doesn't love a bit of leopard print?

Talia Boyfriend Cardigan  |  Tilly Leopard Hat + Scarf  |  Lucy Wool Look Cocoon Jacket

And while I'd kill (not literally of course - that would be totally barbaric) for any of the above pieces, I'm also rather smitten with this reindeer onesie. How. Frickin'. Adorable.
