film recommendation #4

Little Ashes is a haunting tale of a coming-of-age Salvador Dali, Luis Buñuel and Federico García Lorca. Set in the beautiful backdrop of Madrid and with equally beautiful costumes, the film is a must-see for those reasons alone. Filled with love, torment, hatred and sadness; this biographical story leaves you with that sense of unease that very few manage to do.
I don't claim to be an independent film connoisseur. I watched The Hangover 2 last night and loved it and, let's face it, The Little Mermaid is just too incredible for words. Some of my favourite films have been lesser known ones though, or a BBC production, or a film released straight to DVD... and these films are worth watching. While Little Ashes has received criticism for accents, accuracy, casting and the screenplay, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I may be easily pleased (and also may have watched this film purely for Robert Pattinson: don't judge) but no matter, I'm certainly watching it again some day.
